Although Mary was expelled from her male-dominated church and community for being a sinner and abandoned by her husband, she lives socially, economically, and sexually independent from men. She also has several children, each of whom has a different father. In contrast to Mary, Peterkin, as a plantation mistress, seemed to feel confined within the genteel and male-dominated society of the South. Peterkin\u0027s biographical facts show that Mary is the opposite of Peterkin herself. Throughout her life, she had suffered through traumatic experiences with her first delivery, after which she was sterilized by her father, who thought his daughter would never survive another delivery, because the first one had been so difficult. This sterilization clearly showed that in a patriarchal society where the sexuality of a Southern, white, middle-class woman is only utilized for the purpose of maintaining the legitimate white paternal line, her body was controlled not by her own will, but by her father, or men in general. Thus, it can be said that Mary is Peterkin, and that by wearing the black mask, Peterkin finds a way to criticize the male-dominated society that controls desire and the female body, exploring the possibility of female independence. In the South, where racial segregation had been fortified, it cannot be overlooked that Peterkin had assumed the black point of view to really see Southern society and relativize it in her fiction.", "subitem_description_type": "Abstract"}]}, "item_10002_publisher_8": {"attribute_name": "出版者", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_publisher": "札幌市立大学"}]}, "item_10002_source_id_9": {"attribute_name": "ISSN", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_source_identifier": "1881-9427", "subitem_source_identifier_type": "PISSN"}]}, "item_10002_version_type_20": {"attribute_name": "著者版フラグ", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_version_resource": "http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85", "subitem_version_type": "VoR"}]}, "item_creator": {"attribute_name": "著者", "attribute_type": "creator", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"creatorNames": [{"creatorName": "松井, 美穂", "creatorNameLang": "ja"}, {"creatorName": "マツイ, ミホ", "creatorNameLang": "ja-Kana"}], "nameIdentifiers": [{"nameIdentifier": "161", "nameIdentifierScheme": "WEKO"}, {"nameIdentifier": "1000030270193", "nameIdentifierScheme": "NRID"}]}, {"creatorNames": [{"creatorName": "Matsui, Miho", "creatorNameLang": "en"}], "nameIdentifiers": [{"nameIdentifier": "13", "nameIdentifierScheme": "WEKO"}]}]}, "item_files": {"attribute_name": "ファイル情報", "attribute_type": "file", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"accessrole": "open_date", "date": [{"dateType": "Available", "dateValue": "2014-12-01"}], "displaytype": "detail", "download_preview_message": "", "file_order": 0, "filename": "SCU7_01.pdf", "filesize": [{"value": "1.1 MB"}], "format": "application/pdf", "future_date_message": "", "is_thumbnail": false, "licensetype": "license_free", "mimetype": "application/pdf", "size": 1100000.0, "url": {"label": "SCU7_01", "url": "https://scu.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/37/files/SCU7_01.pdf"}, "version_id": "898b24c2-ee70-4909-afbf-e046902ccd3d"}]}, "item_keyword": {"attribute_name": "キーワード", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_subject": "アメリカ南部文学", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "女性文学", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "セクシュアリティ", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "人種", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "Literature of the American South", "subitem_subject_language": "en", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "Women’s Literature", "subitem_subject_language": "en", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "Sexuality", "subitem_subject_language": "en", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "Race", "subitem_subject_language": "en", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}]}, "item_language": {"attribute_name": "言語", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_language": "jpn"}]}, "item_resource_type": {"attribute_name": "資源タイプ", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"resourcetype": "departmental bulletin paper", "resourceuri": "http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]}, "item_title": "White Lady, Black Mask—Julia Peterkin の Scarlet Sister Mary における人種とセクシュアリティ", "item_titles": {"attribute_name": "タイトル", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_title": "White Lady, Black Mask—Julia Peterkin の Scarlet Sister Mary における人種とセクシュアリティ", "subitem_title_language": "ja"}, {"subitem_title": "White Lady, Black Mask: Race and Sexuality in Julia Peterkin\u0027s Scarlet Sister Mary", "subitem_title_language": "en"}]}, "item_type_id": "10002", "owner": "14", "path": ["23", "13"], "permalink_uri": "https://scu.repo.nii.ac.jp/records/37", "pubdate": {"attribute_name": "PubDate", "attribute_value": "2014-12-01"}, "publish_date": "2014-12-01", "publish_status": "0", "recid": "37", "relation": {}, "relation_version_is_last": true, "title": ["White Lady, Black Mask—Julia Peterkin の Scarlet Sister Mary における人種とセクシュアリティ"], "weko_shared_id": -1}
